How to clean chalk paint after sanding. With wax you have to reapply it every few months using cleaners and just the traffic of people will ware off waxand you have to reapply. The mineral spirits will break down the wax and as you scrub the wax will start to pull away from the paint. A good primer will ensure that your new paint finish stays put. It is good to use a shop vac to clean the surface between sanding grits removing the larger grit particles from the wood before sanding with the next higher grit.
How to Fix It. Then you will need to give the entire surface a good cleaning with a degreaser like TSP to clean off the residue left behind by the mineral spirits. No need to worry about completely removing it in order to paint over it.
After you scrub the whole piece wipe off any residue with a wet rag. I like to feel the piece and it does not take much effort muscle power at all to do this step. While blowing the dust off with compressed air removes the dust it also mixes it into the air so some of it can settle back onto the surface and so you can breath it.

Then seal it with shellac let it dry and then paint another coat of chalk paint. Dust and furniture polish can stop paint from sticking to the surface. Soak the paintbrush in water.
